Dentures

Dentures are removable appliances that replace missing teeth and can be removed and inserted into your mouth at your will. Depending on your needs you may receive full or partial dentures. There are many types of Dentures:

  • Immediate Dentures - This method inserts the removable dentures on the same day that the remaining teeth are removed. This means you don't have to spend any time without your teeth during the healing period. However, a follow up visit to have the dentures relined or remade after your jaw has healed.
  • Conventional Dentures - This full removable denture is made and placed in your mouth when all your teeth have been removed and your gum tissue has healed, this may take several months.

Sometimes some of your teeth can be saved. In this instance we will recommend partial denture. When not all of your teeth need to be removed we can use this to preserve your jawbone and provide stability and support for the denture. This is similar to a bridge or implants, but it is not permanent and can be inserted and removed at your choosing.

Your new dentures may feel awkward for a few weeks, but over time, your mouth will become accustomed to your new teeth and these problems should fade away. If any soreness or irritability persists, consult us right away.

Although dentures are not real teeth, you still have to practice good dental hygiene. You should brush your gums, tongue and roof of your mouth every morning while also brushing your dentures to remove plaque and food particles. After removal place your dentures into room temperature water or a denture cleaning solution.
